NääSMaaS: Tampere region transport service for schoolchildren
The NääsMaaS experiment involved a joint transport service from school to hobbies or a selected drop off point for young people in grades 3-9. The experiment reduced private motoring and the resulting environmental damage. This also saved parents’ time and nerves. In the long term, the service offers children more equal opportunities for low-threshold hobbies.
Results
- 90% of the parents are interested in the service, but only 20% of those interested use the service. Those who use the service are 90% satisfied.
- Parents are willing to pay 3-5 euros for the child's ride.
- The experiment found that route optimisation and sufficient student volume are key prerequisites for success.
- With the help of the transport service, the working day schedules of professional coaches became more compact and shorter.
Effects
- More equal opportunities for coaching opportunities and hobby costs for a larger group of children.
- Families can now spend more time together in the evenings as coaching takes place in the afternoons. Children also have time for independent physical activity and yard games.
